A Connecticut driver would pay a passenger vehicle toll of 60 cents or 75 cents for a one-way trip across the elevated, double-decked network of bridges and ramps where Interstate 84 and Route 8 converge. Within a 24-hour period, any vehicle equipped with a state-issued electronic pass will not pay for more than one round-trip per gantry under the Lamont’s plan. Users of transponders will also get a 20% discount. The Lamont administration estimates the Mixmaster tolls would raise $1.8 million annually that would be used to finance repairs to extend the life of the main upper and lower spans carrying I-84 and repair four bridges on Route 8 south of the I-84 interchange.
