Plans for New Haven’s Union Station would add retail, possible hotel

Union Station could be more than it is — a transportation center with a few fast-food shops — with downtown businesses such as Atticus Bookstore Cafe and Crêpes Choupette opening outlets and possibly a boutique hotel operating overhead, according to plans announced Tuesday by city and state officials. The idea is to show off the century-old station to its best advantage, making it a “welcome mat” to New Haven.
