New ‘eCommerce’ distribution center slated for Waterbury’s East End

A Trumbull-based developer is preparing to build a 90,000-square-foot “e-commerce” distribution center in the city’s East End, promising a big influx of jobs and new tax revenue. Phil DiGennaro said he has an agreement to buy a property at 3800 East Main St. – just east of Costco near the Cheshire line. He plans to build and lease to a particular “Fortune 500” company, he said. DiGennaro is renovating a former Scholastic Corp. building in Danbury into a 147,000-square-foot distribution facility for Amazon, according to a release issued by Danbury in June. Mayor Neil M. O’Leary said the roughly $25 million building project is expected to result in about 200 new jobs. Projects of this magnitude will help the city during the global economic slump brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
