Man injured in construction accident in New London

A 54-year-old man was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital with serious injuries Monday after a construction accident on Governor Winthrop Boulevard behind the Garde Arts Center, according to the city and the fire department. Fire Battalion Chief Jonathan Paige said the fire department responded to the rear of the theater around noon after a scissor lift had toppled onto a man. The man was taken to the hospital by L+M paramedics. The city said fire, police and Occupational Safety and Health Administration personnel were at the scene. Garde Executive Director Steve Sigel said the injured man is “a valued member of our team.” He called it “a very unfortunate accident” and said he hopes the individual heals.
