The “Bethel Forward” plan, was in the works for a decade and finalized just over a year ago, and since then officials have been applying for grants to make downtown more walkable and working to change zoning regulations to promote development. Although Bethel aims to revitalize the whole downtown, the core of the plan is the area surrounding the train station. Bethel and many other towns across the state, including Danbury and Ridgefield, are focused on such transit-oriented-development (TOD).
