Planners examine how another bridge in Farmington would reduce Route 4 traffic back-ups

The Capitol Region Council of Governments previously did some preliminary traffic modeling and concluded a bridge could benefit motorists on Route 4, one of the busiest east-west thoroughfares in the Farmington Valley. “The results show significant decreased traffic volume in Unionville center, minor decreased traffic volume in Farmington center, and significant increases in traffic on some roadways adjacent to the new roadway connection,” CRCOG reported. A more detailed analysis is being done to determine specific benefits and impacts of extending Monteith Drive with a bridge across the river. The state is funding 90% of the study cost, with Farmington paying the remaining $15,000.
