Lamont peered into the dim emptiness of an abandoned 200,000 square-foot factory, a building with good bones and high ceilings that O’Leary says will save it from the demolition crews that are slowly creating clean slates from brown fields for the next act in what once was America’s Brass City. With $3 million awarded by the administration of Lamont’s predecessor, the city has been clearing the site, once home to a metal hose company, Anamet. At least another $2 million is needed to finish. O’Leary told the governor about another abandoned factory, one reclaimed and back on the tax rolls, providing jobs.
