Greenwich RTM accepts funds for new civic center, reveals Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation donated $5 million

The town announced earlier this month that it had received a $5 million donation to build a new $21.5 million civic center in Old Greenwich. And the Representative Town Meeting unveiled the identity of the donor Monday night as it agreed to accept the donation, which came from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation. The RTM approved the agreement by a vote of 115 to 31, with three abstentions. Under the agreement, the new civic center will be named the Cohen Eastern Greenwich Civic Center. But some have raised concerns about public-private partnerships, which Camillo has championed, asking how much say the private donors would have on projects and whether naming rights are appropriate. But the committee members also said the $5 million donation was “a welcome and generous offer,” Burgweger added.
