The town is hoping the state Department of Transportation will widen the shoulders by narrowing the travel lanes or shifting the roadway, to allow at least one wide shoulder along the side of the road. DOT spokesman Kevin Nursick said whenever DOT does a paving project, the aim is always to “incorporate wider shoulders where possible, if the geometry of the roadway and other technical features will support it.”
