Mayor Elinor Carbone and several other city officials gathered in the Mayor’s Office Monday afternoon to announce the launching of the project. The project will create a “civic space” that is aiming to lure residents and others to the area and enhance the prospects of existing and potential future businesses in the immediate area and beyond. Once complete, the project, which will be undertaken by RJB Contracting of Torrington, is intended to provide an attractive venue for individuals to walk or sit in a “meditation” area. There will be trees planted and ample lighting will make the space inviting and safe during evenings. A stretch of the Naugatuck River Greenway will pass through the plaza, in effect creating a river walk. Additional parking is included as part of the project. Walkways will be wide and attractively designed.
