The Hebron Elementary School Drinking Water Remediation Committee is taking advantage of schools closed by COVID-19 to get a head start on the $1.2 million lead pipe replacement project. Preliminary work was originally set to begin during April break while students were away and kick into full gear in June after students are released for summer break. The project was to be completed by Aug. 15. Contractors from Nutmeg Cos. Inc. began the work mid-March. Last week, a clerk of the works was hired to oversee the project. Mark Fitzgerald of Mark M. Fitzgerald Construction took on the position. He brings more than 35 years of construction experience to the table.
