Senate President Martin Looney, D-New Haven, said Monday that they haven’t ruled out a special session, however, the state Capitol will remain closed through the constitutional adjournment of May 6. Looney said they can’t bring people back into the building without the proper protection, such as masks and gloves. He said they are working with Legislative Management to purchase the equipment and in the meantime lawmakers are being asked to work with committee chairs on legislation they would like to see raised during a future special session. No date has been set yet for a special session. Office of Policy and Management Secretary Melissa McCaw estimated Monday that the state would end the year with a $530.2 million budget deficit.
