The state Department of Transportation earlier this year released a 5-year capital plan that programmed $9 billion in state and federal spending through the 2025 fiscal year. The DOT is looking to use the potential new federal funds to expedite some of these previously planned projects, and also to push up the schedule for other projects included in the state’s long-term transportation, said Mark Rolfe, deputy transportation commissioner. The nearly $5.4 billion in dedicated funding represents a $1.63 billion increase over the most recent transportation bill enacted in 2015.
