Town officials are looking to acquire 78 Gillotti Road for its high school building project, but some New Fairfield residents are questioning whether that move is legal without a referendum. One resident called for the project to be “formally placed on an indefinite hold” due to construction costs and financial hardships taxpayers are facing as a result of the coroanvirus pandemic. Last week, the Permanent Building Committee agreed to reduce the project budget by $475,772 and move an additional $547,228 into contingency if the town were to purchase the property. Board of Finance member Anthony Yorio noted some residents believe the $325,000 cost to purchase 78 Gillotti Road would be added onto the project budget — but that would not be the case.
