After a marathon session of shuttle diplomacy in Capitol meeting rooms that started Monday afternoon, Connecticut’s 116-day budget impasse finally ended at 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, when legislative leaders agreed they have a deal that can be voted on later in the week. Between late in the afternoon Monday and right up to the agreement at 1:30 Tuesday, Republicans, Democrats and non-partisan staff from the Office of Fiscal Analysis (OFA) shuttled in an out of Aresimowicz’s second floor meeting room. Most of the night, OFA analysts stood or sat outside the room, occasionally being summoned behind the room’s stained glass door. The leaders started the day about $80 million apart – a pittance in a $41-billion budget – and narrowed it down to $34 million before the final push was made and the deal sealed
