Anna Reynolds School referendum passes easily in Newington

A proposal to spend $35.5 million on school improvements was approved by a 7,179 to 2,589 vote at the polls, according to town clerk James Krupienski. Local taxpayers will be responsible for up to $17.5 million of the cost, with state school building grants covering the remainder of the renovate-to-new project. Brummett said construction won’t begin until summer 2022 and that students will be staying at the school during construction with the exception of Pre-K which will be relocated to John Paterson School during the 2022-23 school year. The project should be done by December 2023, she said. District officials and parents have been seeking upgrades to the school for several years as its condition has continued to deteriorate.
